Billie Eilish makes surprise acting debut in new thriller series

Billie Eilish’s acting debut in Donald Glover’s brand-new thriller series “Swarm” shocked viewers. Dominique Fishback plays Dre in the seven-part series, which explores the violent side of stan culture. Dre is a troubled young woman whose violent obsession with the pop star Ni’Jah. The day before the show’s Prime Video debut, Eilish teased her presence in the fourth episode on her Instagram profile.

Eilish’s character and Fishback’s Dre have an unsettling conversation in the video. When Eilish inquires about the colour of the milk stain on the carpet, Dre responds, “It was red.” Then Eilish asks in a low voice, “Did you hurt someone?” and Eilish gives a chilling “Very good” in response to knowing that Dre did.

Eilish’s performance in “Swarm” was praised by fans and fellow celebrities, with singer Gracie Abrams expressing her obsession and actress Kathryn Newton exclaiming “Omgggg” in the comment section. According to co-creator Janine Nabers, Eilish was handpicked for the role by casting director Carmen Cuba, who recommended the singer despite her lack of prior acting experience.

Nabers explained to Rolling Stone,

“We were looking to cast the episode and she suggested Billie, and I said, ‘Does she act?’ And she said, ‘Yeah.’ And I said, ‘What has she been in?’ And she said, ‘Nothing.’ But what’s so incredible about this process is that you have a lot of people that work on the show that are multi-hyphenate and people who have so many different passions. We gravitate toward people who are juggling multiple hats.”
