The Riverdale Showrunner, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Recently Announced that Riverdale Will be Returning for Season 5 very soon as pre production has already begun.
He said through an Instagram post: “At long last, Offices are open and we are in pre production on Season 5 of #Riverdale!!”
Season 4 ended abruptly due to the Coronavirus Crisis, and production was left incomplete. The cast will begin filming soon in September and the rest of the Episodes of season 4 will be released along with season 5.
Time Jump in Season 5
As Revealed by Riverdale Actress: Lili reinhart in a recent interview with Jimmy Fallon, After season 4 is wrapped, there will be a 7 year time Jump on the Show.Which opens up a multitude of possibilities for storylines, and we will be seeing the characters in a later stage of their lives.
She Says:
“We’re taking the first few Episodes to finish Season 4, and then Season 5, We’re actually doing a… I believe 7 year time Jump into the future”
Lili Added: “We’re not going to be teenagers anymore” . While being excited about the time Jump She reveals that she’s looking forward to playing an adult.
Who Are The New Characters?
According to multiple publications, casting calls have been made for new characters to Join Season 5 who will definitely foster Chaos and Mystery. Some among these include Jughead’s new girlfriend and Veronica’s husband and will occur after the time jump.
After Betty Cheated on Jughead with Archie in season 4, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to the fans that Jughead has a new girlfriend! (Sorry Bughead Fans!)
Jughead’s New Girlfriend: Jessica
Looking at the call sheet, Jessica is described as “A train-wreck-y hipster” and is is Jughead’s live-in girlfriend. It is assumed that their relationship may not be a happy one.(Which is hope for all Bughead fans out there!)
“Jessica makes no secret of the fact that she’s done with their relationship since she can see that she’s not as important to him as the book he’s not writing.” She is a Recurring Character in season 5.
Veronica’s Husband, Chad Gekko:
Turns out, it’s no good news for Varchie Fans too! Veronica will be married after the Time Jump, But Not To Archie. She will be married to Katy Keene(Riverdale Spinoff show) Character, Chad Gekko. It seems like the Original actor will not be reprising his role. A casting call has been issued for the role of Chad Gekko.
It reads: “Male, 20s. White. Chad is Veronica’s controlling and neurotic husband who works on Wall Street.””Though charming, his failed Ponzi scheme and shady deals with Hiram reveal his moral duplicity, putting Chad’s life in danger” Chad will be a Recurring Character.
Archie’s Army Friend, Eric Jackson:
At the end of season 4, After Betty breaks things off with Archie, he decides to go to the Naval Academy after graduation. Eric Jackson will be Archie’s Army Friend at the Naval Academy.
His casting call identifies him as: “Male, 20s. Open ethnicity. A veteran who lost his leg and suffered third-degree burns while fighting in the Army with Archie.” This reveals that he and Archie will be going through troubled times at the Naval academy. “Ironically, Eric joins Archie to help run the fire department in Riverdale.”
The casting call sheet also goes on to mention: “But Eric is still dealing with his own trauma, which leads him into a darker place. ACTORS WHO ARE LEG AMPUTEES ARE ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT”Eric is a Recurring Guest Star.
Pop Tate’s Grand Daughter, Tabitha Tate:
The previous owner of the iconic Pop’s Diner, Pop Tate is one of the most innocent in the town of Riverdale. The last we saw of Pop Tate was him Operating the Diner on behalf of Veronica who is the owner of Pop’s.
Pop Tate’s Grand Daughter: Tabitha Tate will come to Riverdale After the Time Jump when Pop’s Diner is assumed to be in a Pretty bad state.Casting call identities her as an “ambitious and entrepreneurial woman”.She will arrive in the suburban town with a mission “to turn Pop’s Chock’lit Shoppe into a franchise diner, even within the dying town of Riverdale.”
Possible Season 5 Storyline
Most Definitely, Many Bughead & Varchie Fans are not happy with Jughead and Veronica’s Relationships, but, here’s the good news: From the casting Calls it seems as if Veronica and Jughead are not Happy with their new relationships, which would mean that this Season could be about Veronica and Jughead realising that Archie and Betty are their actual soulmates and ultimately Reuniting with them! (Don’t lose hope Bughead and Varchie Fans!)
